What Is Christianity?

The message at the heart of Christianity is pretty simple. Find out what it's all about on this two-minute video. Turn your speakers on! At the bottom of the page there are details on how to ask any questions you may have.

Christianity is about Jesus. But who is Jesus?

Jesus once asked his followers this question:

"Who do you say I am?"

  • A prophet with a new teaching?
  • A healer to the sick?
  • A saviour to a lost world?

WIC.1

Jesus claimed each of these, but most importantly, he claimed to be God in the flesh.

At the dawn of time he ignited human history when he spoke. He breathed life into the lungs of the first man and woman - and every inch of creation itself.

WIC2

But we rebelled. We turned against our King and followed our own ways, even though it would cost us our life. Our sin poisoned his perfect creation, giving way to sickness, injustice, and death.

WIC3

Sin separated us from one another, and from God.

Why did Jesus come?

But rather than cast off humanity, God sent his Son Jesus to enter into the world he Created - the one broken by our sin. He breathed our air, became human like us.

WIC4

He lived a perfect life - the one God intended we live - and called us to repent of our sin and follow him in faith.

Some believed his word and recognised him as King. Others denied him. They crowned him with thorns and murdered him. They rejected him, and so have we.

But God had a plan. Jesus willingly gave himself up to die on a cross to save us from God's judgment and the death we deserve.

WIC5

On that cross, he exchanged our rebellion for his obedience. Our brokenness for his perfection.

The Son of God died so we could live.

And on the third day, he rose to life again, defeating death forever.

And now, he sits on the throne of heaven, offering life through the Holy Spirit to all those who repent and trust in him.

WIC6

What does it mean for us?

Jesus is the King of Kings.

You can either crown him or crucify him. There is no middle ground.

No one will ever ask you a more important question than the one Jesus asked:

Who do you say I am?

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

Restore Filey does not own its own building. This means we meet at different venues around Filey and the surrounding villages for our Sunday Service's which start at 10:30am. Please check out our calendar on this site or our Facebook page to find out where we are meeting this week. If you need support with transport to get to church then please contact us and we will be happy to see if we can help.

During the service there are always refreshments available which are free. Often after church we have something to eat together which again are free.

Accessibility: If you have mobility needs or sensory needs please let us know and we will make sure we can support you to access our service as you require.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10.30am with a warm welcome from one of our team members. Then follows a time of sung worship, led by our musicians. We typically have 3 or 4 songs lasting approximately 20 minutes. Sometimes a person might pray out loud or read a small passage from the bible. Sometimes people share things that they believe God is saying to the whole church family. This might seem strange the first time you hear it but it’s all part of our connecting with God. We then share news and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church. One of our leaders will then give a sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We then finish with a final worship song. Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.

What about my kids?

We always ensure that there are children's leaders on hand. Every week we offer junior church where games and crafts are provided. There is no need to stay with your children unless they want you too. This takes place in the same building and is easily accessible.

Children stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service for the welcome, songs and notices. We really value worshipping God all together as a family. At the end of the notices someone will announce that it’s time for the younger members to go to their various groups. You will need to go with your children to their groups and register them as part of our child safety policy. Whilst you are dropping your kids off at their groups, we pause to take time to chat to someone sitting near or next to us, giving folk a chance to come back before the sermon begins.

The kids group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, bible stories, testimonies, praying, music, craft, drama, fun games and free play.

Getting Connected

Small Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some mornings and some evenings. Check out Small Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.

I have lived in and around Filey for over 20 years. I love the town and want Restore to be a church that is welcoming to all. I have been involved in church ministry for many years especially working with children and young people. I am a qualified Social Worker and still practice alongside my commitment to the church.    I have always lived in the Filey area and have a love for the town. I am passionate that the people of Filey and the surrounding villages are given the chance to hear the good news of Jesus and to know that it can change lives just as it did mine. I work part time at the Rainbow Social Action Centre and have a heart for support the vulnerable and disadvantaged in our community.

We hope that whoever you are, you will feel at home at our church.

Best Wishes

Tim, Ali and the leadership team at Restore
